Research & Innovation

Research at Vikram Dev University is grounded in the languages, ecology, and social conditions of the Eastern Ghats. Five thematic clusters guide the doctoral and translational portfolio, with active collaborations across the public-sector enterprises and conservation institutions of the Koraput region.

Research clusters

Eastern Ghats Ecology & Biodiversity

Floristic and ethnobotanical research in the Niyamgiri and Kolab catchments. Aquatic biology of the Sabari river system. Departments of Botany, Zoology, and Chemistry.

Tribal Heritage & Language

Documentation of Desiya, Kui, Sora, and other languages of the four districts. Translation studies anchored in the Department of Odia. Oral history of tribal communities.

Scheduled-Area Governance & Development

Field research on PESA implementation, scheduled-area governance, and the KBK development question. Departments of Political Science, Sociology, and Economics.

Mineral & Bauxite Chemistry

Analytical chemistry of the bauxite plateaus around Damanjodi and Panchpatmali. Industry partnership with NALCO.

Language Technology & Accessibility Computing

Natural-language processing for low-resource Indian languages; assistive technology research for students with disabilities. Department of Computer Science.

Pedagogical Research in Foundational Literacy

Aligned to the Vice-Chancellor's career-long work on learning outcomes at NCERT. Pilot studies in government schools across the four districts.

Doctoral programme

The Ph.D. programme is administered under the UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of Ph.D. Degree) Regulations, 2022. Admission is through the University Research Entrance Test (RET) followed by an interview at the Department.

  • Coursework of one semester (4 credits each in Research Methodology, Research and Publication Ethics, and a discipline-specific paper).
  • Synopsis presentation to the Department Research Committee.
  • Annual progress review.
  • Thesis submission and pre-submission seminar.
  • Open viva voce defence.

Research ethics

The University's Institutional Ethics Committee meets monthly and reviews every research protocol involving human subjects, human tissue, animal subjects, or potentially sensitive community engagement. The committee operates under the Indian Council of Medical Research's National Ethical Guidelines and the University Grants Commission's Care and Use Guidelines.

Plagiarism is governed by the UGC (Promotion of Academic Integrity and Prevention of Plagiarism in Higher Educational Institutions) Regulations, 2018. Every thesis is checked through institutional plagiarism-detection software before submission.
